The White Peacock (score)

Charles Tomlinson Griffes (b. 1884) was becoming one of the pre-eminent American composers before his untimely death from influenza in 1920. He left us with a legacy of works of astonishing lyric and coloristic beauty. He is best known among flutists for his Poem for Flute and Orchestra, dating from 1918. The White Peacock (1915) is best known to concert audiences in the composer’s orchestral version of 1917, and has long been a favorite. It forms the first movement of the suite "Roman Sketches," Op. 7. The work was originally scored for solo piano, and it on is this version which Nathan Zalman has based this transcription for flute orchestra. It is scored for piccolo, four concert flutes, two alto flutes, two bass flutes, and contrabass flute. This is the score only. The parts are available from the arranger directly.
