Paintings and Poems tracing artist Neil Enggist's travels from the mountain to the sea. At some point during a decade plus of roaming, the artist found that he wasn’t looking for a destination or an answer, but seeking to transform his questions into colors, movements, poetry, form and formlessness. Half Swiss and half Taiwanese, born and raised in New Jersey, Enggist finds himself ever between worlds, ‘always on the outside of any side there was,’ belonging in fluid motion.
Onsite locations include Grindelwald, Asbury Park, the Redwood forest, Zermatt, Rigi, Huang Shan (the Yellow Mountains), Liguria, and various points along the coast of California including Lands End, Big Sur, and the Lost Coast.
The panting is the result of walking up to a sensed precipice, becoming lost in natural wonder, finding a shiver that moves together through the mountain and the spine, and getting the right color on the end of this shiver. Poetry like thunder follows the blitz.
