The majority of the poems in this volume, composed between 1988 and 1995, were not intended for publication. However, they received an enthusiastic response from various quarters with their directness, arresting imagery, and the author's sense of the musicality of the language. 'A poem is like a musical score,' he insists. 'It awaits a performance.' Diverse in tone and technique, from the lyrical to the ironic, the celebratory to the introspective, they are an attempt to 'capture the moment on the wing' and offer a refreshing contrast to the obfuscation and dressed-up prose of much contemporary verse. Collectively they record a journey, with five recent poems casting a reflective light on the intervening years.
