The Hourglass is the fictional story of Adam Lawrence, an expatriate teacher living in Sha Lou City, Liaoning Province. Lawrence gets involved in a money laundering scam involving the Chinese navy running corrupt money into North Korea and must eventually choose between his life in the country and the people that he cares about.
