PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN
by Robert Browing
Illustrated by Kate Greenaway
Robert Browning first published his poem "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" in 1842, based on an old German legend. Browning was a very good poet so the flowery language in iambic tetrameter he uses is this book will be great for improving any child's language skills.
Kate Greenaway was one of the most famous and popular illustrators of children's literature in the latter part of the 19th Century. She had grown up loving Browning's poem, and shortly before his death she received his permission to republish it accompanied by her own illustrations.
Since then it has been impossible to imagine this classic without Browning's Victorian verse and Greenaway's fabulous Victorian artistry. Together this Browning-Greenaway classic has been a must have bestseller for more than a century.
