This is the story of a pioneer Nalini who was born in Baghutia, undivided Bengal (now in Bangladesh) in the times before the birth of the nation and charts his journey through the tea gardens of Assam to Calcutta. In these seven decades, the tapestry of India changed from the British Raj, through the pangs of partition while the nations were born. The story tells of the challenges of a family who were distributed between the plains of Bengal and the misty hills of Assam. There are tales of the life of Tea Garden sahibs and their Indian counterparts, of tremors, famine and partition which lasted for many years and then of dreams, aspirations and successes. It tells of how modern West Bengal, Assam and Bangladesh shifted the sands and determined their destinies.
