The Prince of Space

The Prince of Space

ByNorman R. Dean

Norman L. Dean, inventor of the Stellar Spatial Inertial Gyroscopic System- The worlds first inertial navigation- Not since John Harrison, who invented the Marine Chronometer in the 1700's has any one man done so much for navigation than Norman L. Dean. His invention was seized by the United States Navy, where it was used to power the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Program, guided the USS Nautilus under the arctic Ice Pack and guide the Apollo Astronauts to the Moon and Home. Dean spent 20 years trying to regain control of his device but to no avail. He watched helplessly as his invention was divided by rich military corporations and men of power. No credit, no recognition for his work, and watched as Charles Stark Draper was accorded credit for Dean's work.
