A king marries a new woman every day and has her imprisoned the following morning.
The clever minister’s daughter devises a plan to escape imprisonment by telling the king compelling stories and eventually becomes queen. One of the many stories she tells the king is that of Cinderella.
As is the custom, the king invites everyone from his kingdom to the palace in order to find the most suitable wife for the crown Prince.
An abusive stepmother and her two jealous, overbearing daughters attend the ball too, but they do not take their stepdaughter and stepsister called Cinderella, with them because they are secretly scared that she will gain the lime light and the prince’s heart due to her beauty, charm and good nature.
When Cinderella is just about to give up on any chance of meeting the prince, a fairy godmother appears and much to Cinderella’s surprise magically provides a carriage, horses, a dress, and perfectly fitted sandals.
The stepsisters do everything in their power to keep Cinderella away from the Prince, but Cinderella’s fairy godmother isn’t having it.
In the end, Cinderella’s stepmother and stepsisters reflect on their wicked behaviour, apologise to her and change their ways to become more like Cinderella, in the hope that good fortune will shine on them too.
A lesson for children that good things come to those who are good eventually, sometimes you just have to wait a little.
