Coming to Astoria - Coming of Age in America

This story is told through the eyes of a young boy, Omar, who comes to New York with his family in search of a better life. The story takes place in the seventies, when abuse within the household was common, accepted, and where police officers looked the other way. When immigrants weren't as welcomed as they are now, and one-sided fights were common place. Omar, now an inner city youth, is caught in the middle. This is Omar's personal experience with fights, beatings, hardships. A nine year old trying to get accepted into the community.
