Octavius Augustus, the first Emperor of Rome, was nineteen years old when he started, and seventy-six years old when he completed this journal detailing the “Deeds of the Divine Augustus.” By the time the citizens of Rome decided to etch these word into a bronze pillar at the center of the capitol city, Augustus had already led an empire of unprecedented scope through one of its most glorious epochs, and was considered by most to be the son of a god, if not a god himself.
