Pat Yarlett was born in the workhouse in Evesham, the second illegitimate child of an alcoholic mother. Her mother later married a violent man and abandoned them at her mother's home. Pat was taken into care at age four. This book is about her childhood in an orphanage in the 1950's and the long term effects it had in later life. This is not just a tragic story; it is laced with humour and courage as she, as an adult struggles to come to terms with the past and move on.
