The authors, Pat and Ralph Coppola, love dogs. So much so, that they adopted five little guys over the course of more than a decade. There’s Tess, Opie, Ruby, Barney, and Bella. Pat and Ralph noticed that when their dogs were let loose in the backyard, they become an "army of five". They wondered what they must be thinking when they're out there. So it was inevitable that the authors gave them ranks, responsibilities, and the power of speech. It seemed so natural for the authors to put their observations into words. It became the Canine Misfits' mission to protect Pat and Ralph from critters and vermin who invade their “camp” if you will. Well, maybe mission is not exactly the right choice of words. More of a “good intention”. The Canine Misfits adventures are told from the perspective of Tess, the leader of the pack. There are three books in the series so far. The fourth is due to be released at the end of August 2018. The stories are aimed at kids from ages 6-12.
