Torah Scrolls contain the sacred text for the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Text is divided into 54 portions, called Parshas (Parashiyot). Each Parsha is further divided into seven sub-sections that are read as a unit, plus a Maftir reading, called Aliyahs (Aliyot). The Scrolls do not contain any additional text - so there are no Column Numbers (the equivalent of Page Numbers in a book). This makes Torah Scroll Navigation, the ability to locate a specific Parsha / a specific Aliyah within the Scroll very challenging. Fortunately, Halachah (Jewish Law) mandates aspects of textual layout standards for the Torah Scroll. This workbook uses these standards to create repeatable processes for locating Aliyot. Equipping Future Leaders to Locate Aliyot - In each classroom, a handful of our students are on their journey to becoming tomorrow's community leaders. Some are easy to spot, some are struggling. This workbook contains easy to use processes, for each Aliyah for each of the 54 Parashiyot, that help Hebrew language students locate Aliyot in a Tikkun, and then eventually directly within the Torah Scroll. Today, Torah Scroll Navigation skills are reserved for an elite few. Tomorrow's leaders, from diverse backgrounds, can gain this expertise at an earlier age, and in much greater numbers, experiencing joy in this new facet of their journey to leadership., experiencing joy in this new facet of their journey to leadership.
