The Loyal and Friendly Society of the Orange and Blew 1733 - 1802

The formation of military societies like the Orange and Blew provided a socially acceptable setting for these gentlemen and occasionally ladies to convene and likely influence decision making within the context of empire building and military campaigns both domestically and internationally. As an anti-Catholic and pro-Protestant organisation the society's name reflects the colours associated with its principles orange for William Prince of Orange and blue for the House of Hanover.
