Quantum Theory: A concise guide for beginners
This ebook may not meet accessibility standards and may not be fully compatible with assistive technologies.
Quantum theory is a fascinating but notoriously difficult subject to master. However its impact on the modern world is considerable and it will be of increasing technological importance in the future. Quite simply we live in a quantum world, and the aim of this book is to convey the basics of this subject and at the same time show how interesting and all-pervading this topic has become.
Most of the explanation is given in terms of diagrams and simple descriptions, without recourse to the difficult mathematics that usually accompanies this subject. In the book I have attempted to convey the history and philosophy behind the theory, which has had a turbulent past and was even rejected by Einstein. The book commences with Planck’s introduction of his famous constant and its relevance to understanding light and progresses onto the application of quantum theory to the atom itself
