In autobiographic style, the story is told of a character whose life is plagued with loss, whether it be his hippy upbringing in the English countryside, the questionable past of his father in law or his self destructive choice of friends. In all tales told, there is hope and despair whilst over the whole story we are haunted by the loss of his true love.
