I wanted to write this book to share the reasons behind my success as Managing Director of Spencer Group of Companies and also to let readers see the pluses and minuses of running a small business. Being a woman in a position of leadership and managing a family gives me a distinct perspective to successfully running a small business. Women tend to lead differently than men—not better—just differently. The quick story behind my success is hard work and determina-tion. I left home in New Zealand and came to Australia at 18 and was determined to get myself into travel. I was ready to spread my wings and leave home. I wanted to get out into the big, wide world.
