Conventional in design and seen by some as merely an enlarged Gloster Meteor the Canberra's performance was sufficient to render it immune from the interceptors and fighter types of the day. Its simplicity allowed it to be adapted for a wide variety of roles. Many of these performed well into the early years of the 21st Century.
