Situated in Devon RAF Mount Batten housed No.18 HQ Group Coastal Command. It provided the RAF with easy access to the North Atlantic for long-range anti- U boat patrols and successively housed a number of flying boat squadrons, until receiving HS maritime strike-bombers in the 1970s when it finally closed in 1977 having opened in 1916.
