Valentine's Day has been globally embraced as 'Lovers Day'. It is a day to celebrate love, romance and shows kindness irrespective of the racial, ethnic or religious divide. Historically, St. Valentine is the patron Saint of Valentine's Day dubbed the Saint for Lovers The holiday was named after him during the Roman Empire when Christianity was discriminated against and Christians were persecuted. So, the celebration found its root from the Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February. The festival celebrated to usher in the coming of spring, included pairing off of women with men by lottery and fertility rites. In the 5th Century, Pope Gelasius I, replaced Lupercalia with St. Valentine's Day. Since then, the world embraced it as such.
