TRANSNATIONALISM IN THE NOVELS OF MARK TWAIN, RAJA RAO AND R.K. NARAYAN

An author or a poet takes us through his world or imagination that he sees through his mind's eye and creates in his writings. With the gifted power of creation, he sets up an imaginary world for the readers to visit wherein they can share their lives with the characters. A reader remains in this imaginative world till he reads the last word written and sometimes, with the genius of a writer's work, even longer. But like a reader, an author is as much a product of society as his art is a product of his own reaction to life. It is equally true for even the greatest of artists who, consciously or unconsciously, remains an exponent of his time-spirit. The time-spirit is the total outcome, the quintessential enlargement of all the political, social, religious, and scientific changes of a particular age. These aspects of literature therefore, minor or unimportant though it may be for aesthetic purpose, have become and important means to understand the socio-cultural development of any nation.
