The Shiny Black Horse and the Big White Carousel

This is a story about a real shiny black horse. He lives on a carousel in the Carousel Mall in Syracuse, New York. Carved in Philadelphia in 1909 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, this carousel, like many others of its era, traveled to various locations around the country, fell into disuse and disarray, was re-discovered, re-furbished, and given a new home and a new life in a shopping mall, not far from the site of one of its former locations. The author, a retired children’s librarian, spent many years reading to children. She now enjoys writing for them, including her six (soon to be nine) great grandchildren. She lives with her husband Bob and cat, Ringo, in Gilbert, Arizona.
