This third book by master-teacher Ray Dugan contains dances devised over a thirty-year period of enjoying Scottish Country Dancing. Its title,”The Trillium Collection,” refers to a flower that thrives in heavily wooded areas of Ontario—not only a joy to see in large numbers as a sign of spring but also the symbol of the Province. This is particularly fitting, since many dances here were inspired by events and memories, involving people, places and experiences lived over many years in Ontario. Their names, however, are not exclusively Canadian, but also reflect memories of the deviser’s personal story and relate to various different places. The collection contains an equal number of jigs, reels, and strathspeys, fit for different sets of couples, from two to five.
