Orphaned and homeless, Brin must fend for herself in the wilds of the Tanglewood, while developing the enhanced senses with which she has been blessed. Or cursed. Following her instincts to travel north, she meets a man, Kaen, with a curse of his own and joins him in a quest to safeguard an ancient artifact of immense power, sought also by an evil and shadowy enemy.
Together, they must survive attempts on their lives, a harsh and unforgiving terrain and, when they reach their destination, tests of their courage, resolve and ingenuity, in order to prove themselves worthy of that which they seek. Throughout, Brin must deal not just with her own demons, but those of Kaen, which threaten not just their relationship, but their quest and the safety of their world. Can Brin trust Kaen? Should she trust the motives of the artifact? And, most of all, can she trust herself?
