Colonel Nikolai Restov ended his KGB career in disgrace after a promising spy operation in Canada was smashed. Now a corrupt junior officer in Russia’s new foreign security service, his burning obsession is to punish the sex spy who caused his downfall and defected to Canada.  He hires Yuri Mikhailov, a former KGB assassin, now living a life tangled with unemployment, alcohol and regret, to carry out the vendetta.   Mikhailov soon discovers that he’s trapped in a wicked plot to kill the defector’s adolescent daughter.  He has no stomach to harm the child, but if he fails Restov will bring down his ruthless force on Mikhailov's mother.    The novel's characters find themselves inextricably tangled in a complex drama of deceit, a Canadian government cover-up and a stunning turf war among Canadian law enforcement agencies as Mikhailov unleashes his deadly skills.
