The Diary of Jozef Poziemski Survival in Occupied Poland 1914 to 1980

The Diary of Jozef Poziemski Survival in Occupied Poland 1914 to 1980

ByMarvin E HoyerRenee A Evans

For years the intentional oppression experienced by the Polish peoples during most of the twentieth century was either suppressed or denied until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the declared independence of a proud nation determined to rise from the ashes of war and intentional national genocide. Only within the last twenty years have there been accounts available to the free world of what attrocities were committed. Poziemski's memoirs, written during a period of governmental censorship and suspicion, provide the reader with personal accounts of murder, deception, imprisonment and starvation that was a part of everyday life. The author's own activity both as an active member of the Polish underground movement and a public official is noted throughout his writing and is constantly overshadowed by the tension between uncertainty of the present and hope for the future.
