This is Rhett's homage to his Protestant upbringing. The emissary Shaul told the Corinthians that the word of Christ's execution stake is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to Christians who are being saved it is the power of God. That is how this poetry came about: and added to that vial of inspiration is the Scriptural hope of the soon rapture of the church.
