Slot Car Magazine – MARCH 2024, issue 78

ByMarc AbbottRic Woods

It had quite slipped my mind that this page comes up when you go onto the lulu.com site and decide to have a closer look at the content of the magazine. There I am, waffling away in an often meaningless and usually unhelpful fashion. So, to send our sales skyrocketing, here are a few facts about this issue: There’s a great feature about 1/32nd scale figures, tests on new rally and classic sports cars, a classic sports car build, a classic F1 release, competitions where you can win genuinely good things, a classic saloon test and a report on a racing series for cars based on a 1960s design. AND I’ll have left something out. So, how can you possibly resist? There! Now all I have to do is remember to keep doing that every time… In the January issue I rather pompously told everyone what were my best and worst cars of 2023. The LMM 1970 Porsche 917LHs were given a bit of a panning for the build quality of the chassis, though the finish on the bodies was excellent. I mentioned that, despite everything, I had two of the 1969 917LHs on order. Well, credit where it is due, these two cars turned out to be a big improvement over the previous pair. The rear tyres fitted the rims and were usable. The front axle was now easy to adjust. The motor shaft didn’t grind away the inside of the body. Both cars still looked fantastic. OK, the gears still sounded very unhappy (as in LOUD) and were replaced, but that was it. So well done to LMM, that’s a lot better. I’ll shut up now and let you get on with reading the magazine. Lulu customers, the rest is a lot better than this, I promise.
