Wow, these are difficult times. Nevertheless, those in the hobby are pressing on as best they can – us included – in the hope of getting back to normal (or ‘the new normal’) as quickly as circumstances allow. Inevitably, many of us will have lost friends and colleagues to the virus and it is my sad duty to report the passing of the well-known UK racer John Secchi. I knew John from when I raced at the NLSME club in North London, where he was a stalwart of the 1/24th retro scene. He was an imposing figure, but a top class driver and builder and also a very funny guy. The club will miss him terribly and to his many friends there and to his family we send our sincere condolences. To the current issue, where a first for this magazine is an in-depth look at the slot scene as it was in East Germany. I have to admit that I didn’t even know there was one… All the regulars are here too, of course. It is disappointing that we’ll not be having a laugh together at Gaydon, but hopefully we have come up with something to keep you entertained for a little while at least – and I want to thank all the contributors who have come up with the goods despite the tricky circumstances. It’s time for me to shut up and let you get on with reading the magazine. Take care and stay safe.
