Welcome to the last issue of 2021, a year we probably won’t forget in a hurry, even though we’d like to. At least there are one or two signs still emerging that things are getting back to how they were; it was good to hear from Thunderslot again after a worryingly long break and of course there’s the Winter Slot Car Market at Gaydon on the 28th of this month. The pandemic is still very far from over in the UK, so if you do go, please take care of yourselves and the stallholders. We’ll be there, I hope I’m not the only one wearing a mask.
I must tell you about my latest “Doh!” moment, if only to give you a laugh and probably confirm some suspicions about me. Because of the slightly undulating nature of the test track at my previous house (I tried to pass it off as “character”, but basically it was rather annoyingly uneven), most cars needed a little bit of weight in the front. I decided that this new-fangled tungsten putty would be a great thing – you can shape it easily, it sticks by itself, what could be easier? A couple of HRS chassis received some dollops of the stuff, which worked very well. Except when I came to use these HRS cars again, I couldn’t get them off their plinths… Putty, being putty, doesn’t set hard. Over the course of a few weeks, no doubt helped by the summer temperatures, it slid between the HRS’s rails and came to rest on the plinth, where it was very effective at keeping the car in the slot. The one in the plinth, that is. If you have used the putty, you might want to take a look…
Enjoy the magazine, best wishes for 2022!
