Slot Car Magazine – SEPTEMBER 2021, issue 63

ByMarc AbbottRic Woods

I can start this piece off on an all-too-rare optimistic note, with the announcement of the UK Winter Slot Car Market at Gaydon on the 28th November. I suppose we have to temper our scenes of unbounded joy with a certain amount of caution, given the rate of COVID-19 infection in England at the moment, but with any luck it will all go ahead as planned and it will be fantastic to see – but not get too close to – our old friends there. A good many of the UK clubs are stirring into action now too, again that’s brilliant, but I must pretend to be everyone’s mum and ask everyone involved to take all the precautions they can to keep themselves and others safe. I’m sorry this issue is a little bit late, that was entirely my fault. The house move that had been talked about and dreaded for months finally happened at precisely the wrong time as far as the magazine was concerned, with the inevitable loss of time for me to do the very mysterious and complicated things I have to accomplish before this publication is fit to hit the shelves in your local spare bedroom. It’s worth the wait though! As well as the usual slot-related features, I hope you enjoy the art of Maru Samuilov. We’ve featured a few artists over the years, something that I am more than happy to do as I personally have the drawing skills of an unremarkable seven-year-old. Maru is very special indeed, I’m sure you will agree. And now it’s time for me to shut up and let you get on with the mag. I bet nobody reads this bit first anyway.
