Philippics

Wryly titling this offering Philippics to mimic the biblical Epistle to the Philippians, Kennedy presents an array of new verse having a largely religious theme. Paired with his masterful satirical epic, Samsson, that parodies the man, God and religion triad, the reader is, once again, challenged to “think” and possibly reexamine his or her personal beliefs about God and man, but most of all themselves. What some might regard sacrilegious, he holds a “spiritual,” even sacred. This highly original, boldly assertive, “great poetry” is, as always, distinctly, inimitably Kennedy. While there are bound to be those who will find his perspective shocking, if not offensive, others will find it refreshing and stimulating. Either way, there will be those, whose beliefs will be reaffirmed and strengthened; others will be moved to question and explore and hopefully grow. This is Kennedy at his incomparable best.
