SACRAMENTARY PAID BY EMPEROR HENRY II AT REGENSBURG, GERMANY ABOUT 1010
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Emperor Henry II from 1002-24 was shown the precious Codex Aureus by the monks of St Emmeram in Regensburg and he commissioned a modern copy to be made of it. This miniature is based on that in Codex Aureus painted 140 years earlier. His own portrait appears in place of that of his Carolingian predecessor. The copy, which is a newly-fashionable Sacramentary, rather than a Gospel Book, was made in Regensburg, c. 1010. If you have a comment or question, please use my e-mail: [email protected]
