Firstly, my apologies for the slightly late appearance of this issue. It was mostly my fault – well, I say ‘mostly’, really meaning ‘all’ – because I wanted to review the new Slot.it Matra and found myself insisting that we wait for it to negotiate our notoriously unenthusiastic-about-slot-cars H.M. Customs.
I have to say that one excuse I could have given, but absolutely won’t give, is that my esteemed colleague is recovering from a recent hospital visit, where some pretty serious modifications were carried out to his insides, hopefully by some experts at that sort of thing. There I was, looking forward to at least a week of peace and quiet while he recovered from his ordeal, when he phoned me from his hospital bed for an update on how things were going with the mag. What a guy! I did my usual trick of saying everything that it was all fine and under control, without actually having any idea whether it was or not. Best to keep him calm, I thought. Anyway, he’s back at home now and I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing the lad a full and speedy recovery.
Just about being on the wrong side of elderly myself, I am very taken with the latest project from Giovanni Montiglio, that of the 1960s Russkit 1/24th scale kit “reimagining”, as they seem to call it these days. It’s a brave leap into the opposite end of the slot car market from the tv and film-infested norm, aimed at the younger market, to those of us who longed for these cars as youngsters but could never afford them. Dare I dream of a brand new Cox Chaparral 2E with working wing? Or some high-performance Scalextric 1/24ths?
So here you are, finally it’s the March issue. And I really, really hope you like my Slot.it Matra review.
