For Matkins or Madkins related families living in the United States, Canada, and England, The Matkins’ Journal of Genealogical Research may be one of the most important reference books to own. The majority of, if not all, Matkins family groups are from England. The earliest records indicate, as early as the mid-1500's, the use of the Matkins name from Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. Additionally, the name appears in colonial America prior to 1702. The Matkins Information Center (MIC) was formed in the Summer of 1986, by family genealogist Bob Matkins, to provide a centralized source of information on all Matkins related family lines. The research done by The MIC identified significant information on early Matkins ancestors forward to their present-day descendants. The Matkins’ Journal endeavored to track the following nine (9) families to the present day: • Theodore Madkin (c.l675-), Dorchester County, Maryland. • John Matkins (1762-1845), Dorchester County, Maryland/Caswell County, North Carolina. • William Matkins (1777-1859), Dorchester County, Maryland/Orange County, North Carolina. • James Matkin (late 1700s), Pendleton District, South Carolina/St. Francois County, Maryland. • Ezekiel Matkin (c.1780-), Pendleton District, South Carolina/Madison County, Alabama. • Wyatt Matkin (1822-), Alabama. • John Matkin (c.1720-), Staffordshire, England. • Francis Matkin (c.l775-), Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England. • Robert Matkin (1736-1780), Derbyshire, England. This reference is a reprint of all quarterly newsletters published by The Matkins Information Center. Each issue contained a 1) Editor's Page; 2) Featured Ancestors Section (at least one per issue); 3) Record Extracts; 4) Ancestor Tables; 5) Identification of Family Researchers; 6) a Continuing Index of family names; and 7) Queries.
