This story is a fictitous account of life for an expatriate English rugby player who has retired with his family to a tiny village in South-West France, where he is reluctantly persuaded to join the local team. It is an affectionate account of the many delights of being part of a rural community including some hilarious episodes involving wild boar, a snail farm and some eccentric American tourists. Following a series of administrative mix-ups, it culminates in a match against a full England International team as part of the village’s centenary celebrations. Excitement mounts as the world famous players arrive, accompanied by the usual media circus. Our hero is faced with a dilemma; how to save face for his new friends and team mates and protect them from a major fiasco.
