The U-Turn: Explaining Unique Pictures in English

This is an English language teacher resource for intermediate-level Japanese students. The focus is on helping students to better explain ideas, context, problems and situations. The text is a way to help students to move into explaining a series of pictures through PowerPoint presentations. One avenue for teachers is to have student remember as much as they can about each picture, or to focus on their own selected pictures and on their presentations. The second edition also has a section in which students are asked to provide their opinions about each picture, as many conversations concern news items or events that students have seen or read on TV or on the Internet. The ability to succinctly describe a situation and to provide an opinion is crucial for all interactions.
