The Classic Diplomat Resort fills the largest chapter. Lane joined the hotel being built by Sam Friedland, supermarket mogul, in 1958. The hotel was famous for its great entertainers, performing at the Café Cristal and the New Year’s Eve Galas. Two years later Lane became Assistant to Irving Cowan, the hotel President. He became Treasurer and installed his first computer in 1962. Added are tales of Frank Sinatra, the Mafia man who beat up executives, the fires and the Saudi Prince and Sheik Mohammed who ran up a bill of $1,500,000 before being hauled off to jail. The book opens with family genealogy, stories of Florida up to the Hurricane of 1925, just before the Great Depression. He worked in many resorts from the famous Boca Raton Club, Doral Saturnia Spa of ‘Rich and Famous days’, and The Lago Mar Resort & Beach Club. If you every vacationed in Miami Beach or South Florida, reading this book will be a trip down nostalgia ‘Lane’. Third Edition - Color 312 pp. Color Hard Cover.
