The Story of Gibbons Mill and Mill Farm

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
In The Haven, between Rudgwick and Billingshurst, West Sussex, lies an Arun Valley mill and farm, a location known to locals as simply "Gibbons Mill" This pairing of mill and farm, in separate ownership for most of their long history, is the narrative story of this book. From around 1900, the two became ever more entwined as the corn mill ceased production, briefly a pioneering source of hydroelectricity, before abandonment of miller's house and mill. Gentrification of the Georgian farmhouse followed, interrupted as a wartime evacuated school. A new farm was created for the 20th century on a nearby site well above floods. At times various elements have been in common ownership. The old farmhouse (The Mill House), The Miller's House, and the new farm with its various cottages, including the restored mill itself, comprise three properties today. One of the gems of Rudgwick, accessible by public footpaths and bridleway.
