I had originally planned to travel across Africa in 2014 by car, doing so as part of a group. However, less than a month before departing, I was forced to change course. Heading into the voyage with an open mind, I forged my own path through the African continent with the tools at my disposal. There was no rigid idea that every kilometre had to be cycled, rather applying a mantra that one should embrace the spirit of adventure, if little else. Hitch hiking was often more of an insight into the lives of people who’s nations I visited, compared to peddling the road alone. it is where much of the storytelling in this book is derived from.
