Estelle Williams was born on an ordinary, uneventful cold day in February 1949, in Wilkes County Georgia, the second of three, the second daughter, not the son her father had wished for. She was the first of her family to be born in the local hospital, her sister had been born at home. Her mother had left home right before Estelle started first grade, and left her, her sister and little brother with their father. No one knew where she went. Estelle was a very shy girl, unnoticed, her summers were spent working in the fields and swimming in Long Creek, but everything changed in summer of 1963. It was mid-July when Estelle had her father drop her off at her friend's house on his way to the local beer joint. Alice lived a few miles down the road. They were talking about boys and school when they heard a car racing down the dirt driveway. Estelle had an uncontrollable urge to peek out the window to see who had pulled up, she had always had a sixth sense about things, and an uneasy feeling had come over her.
