Prayer of Saint Charlemagne

This prayer, according to an ancient tradition, was found in the sepulcher of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the year 802 it seems to have been given by the Pope Leo III to the emperor Charlemagne before he left with his army to fight the enemies. It was written in gold letters on a parchment and for a long time it was preciously preserved in the abbey of St. Michael. Anyone who recites this prayer or hears him recite or carries it on himself, no poison can give him death, nor will he die of sudden death. Whoever carries this prayer on himself will not be affected by the evil. This prayer preserved in a house will preserve it from lightning and evil. Those who recite this prayer every day or have it recited will be notified by a sign three days before their death. Whoever writes this prayer for himself or for others the Lord will bless him and when a person is struck by an evil, put this prayer on himself on the right side, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
