The protagonist of A Sense of Belonging
is born into a neighbourhood in a Sicilian
city where honest families live side by
side with dishonest ones. A handsome
boy with a sharp intelligence, his character
is forged by the strong personality of
his grandfather, a disillusioned philosopher
with the sense of a realist.
The boy soon discovers the “K-factor”,
that part of the personality present more
or less latently in every individual,
which leads him to react violently in
particular circumstances.
Through a series of sensational scenes,
gambling and shoot-outs, our hero rediscovers
his better self and enters the
world of finance. There he meets the
woman of his life and enters into contact
with the most renowned men of the
American mafia. The game is still dirty,
but now it’s legal... and the surprising
finale takes some thinking about.
The book pulls the reader along like the
swiftly passing frames of a film, keeping
the spectator on the edge of his seat all
the way to the end.
