What does it mean to be a man a generation after the feminist revolution? These five stories follow a search for male identity from the dreamy adolescence of a fatherless boy to the insomniac wandering of a homeless tramp. The journey crosses the forgotten landscapes of rural America, Maritime Canada, counter-culture Belfast, and all the back roads of County Mayo, Ireland. Moments of sexual awakening and intuitions of death reveal the true masculine root in compassion. Four of the these stories have been published in respected literary quarterlies and three of them have won prestigious national prizes.
