Therapeutic Uses of Botulinum Toxin By Grant Cooper, MD
eBook (ePub): $14.00
Justinius Kerner, a German medical officer and poet, was the first to realize that botulinum toxin potentially might be useful for therapeutic purposes. Kerner made this observation in 1822, but... More > he did not call the toxin “botulinum toxin.” Instead, Kerner called it the substance in “wirkenden stoffes,” which translates to “bad sausages.” Kerner realized that there was a “fat poison” or “fatty acid” within sausages that produced the toxic effects that we now know as botulism. Nearly a century would pass before the bacterium producing the toxin would be isolated and the toxin ultimately renamed “botulinum toxin.” As farsighted as Kerner was, it is doubtful that even he could have predicted just how much potential therapeutic punch was packed within his wirkenden stoffes. It was not until 1978, more than a century and a half after Kerner’s prediction, that Dr. Allan Scott received Food and Drug Administration approval to test botulinum toxin type A in human volunteers< Less

Simplebrain By Myrvin Chester
eBook (PDF): $4.70
This book is a concise monograph concerning the present state of the group of theories produced by the Simplebrain (SB) research programme. Simplebrain theory has been developed over many years. It... More > always has two major components: ideas about the way human memory functions; and the way such ideas may lead to the design of electronic memory systems. Each component illuminates and guides the advance of the other. One component is also used to criticise the other. No electronic solution is allowed that does not follow closely the theory of the biological brain. This defines the, possibly new, academic area of Electronic Brain Technology (EBT) of which Simplebrain is seen as a sub-field.< Less

95% of people who feel ill and decide to consult their doctor can still only be assessed by clinical judgement. Blood tests, X-rays or other scientific investigations performed to clarify the... More > diagnosis, are invariably negative. The big unknown in modern medicine is not cancer or heart disease but the cause of all those niggling nerves, coughs and collywobbles. My psychoanalysis of the situation took me to Canada including the Arctic where I worked on the military front line of the cold war and London in the so-called ‘swinging sixties’ where I was able to study the effects of cannabis, cocaine and heroin. Having resigned in disgust from the NHS in 1973 for its oppressive and exploitative terms and conditions for family doctors, I emigrated to practice in Muslim culture on an oil field but was again dogged by remuneration problems. The book concludes with fresh ideas about those popular topics of conversation, religion, politics and ‘sex’.< Less

The Universal Effectiveness of Topological Thermodynamics..Vol 6 Non-Equilibrium Systems and Irreversible Processes. By Robert Kiehn
Paperback: $50.00

Use Preview to see a Table of Contents Vol6. The Cartan Topology of exterior differential forms is equivalent to the disconnected, non metrizable, Kolmogorov T0 poset (3) topology of four... More > ingredients. Examples are given to demonstrate that non-equilibrium systems of distinguishable particles and irreversible processes are due to the non-metrizable features of the Kolmogorov-Cartan T0 topology. The problem of incorporating indistinguishable objects (statistical wave-diffusion distributions)into a topological perspective of Thermodynamics is accomplished by using differential form densities and Not-T0 topologies, without separation axioms. Homotopic processes on the differential form densities describe complex diffusion equations, such as the wave equation, the diffusion equation, the Landau-Ginsburg equations, the Schroedinger equation, and many others.< Less
