The Symphony n°29, in A major, K 201 (K6 186a) was composed in Salzburg and then completed on April, 6th 1774. Mozart curiously cut from his own hand's original the composition date which however... More > other sources reported. The Symphony was included by Mozart in a rich volume which comprehended also other nine works of him. This represented a selection of works which Mozart considered particularly valuable for live executions in Wien. The Allegro Moderato hereby transcribed, which is the first tempo of the Symphony, is characterized by a tightly imitative but at the same time fresh and vital writing, which give us a glimpse of the mature Mozart: we can clearly see how the composer has so far completely absorbed the rigorous counterpoint studies, and how he is able to insert them in his typical writing naturally.< Less

The 25th Symphony, in g minor K. 183 (K6 173dB), is certainly one of the most important and well known youth works composed by Mozart (also because of its being the initial soundtrack of the renowned... More > movie "Amadeus" by Milos Forman). The "Allegro con brio" hereby transcribed takes the role of the "Allegro Spiritoso" of the previous Symphonies. The key generating cell of the page is the syncopated rhythm which creates a rhythmical boost which pervades all the movement. This brings to a short theme which is presented several times and then re-presented and variated by the oboe in a melancholy and delicate way. In all the movement the rhythm keeps on quite tightly and seems to anticipate the taste for Turkish-like-style which will be developed in the next works.< Less

The Magic Flute is a too much well-known and complex opera to be described shortly. The idea of the overture transcription was born from two main reasons: a) it is an absolute musical masterpiece,... More > with the idea of the old French overture two-movements structure (grave-allegro fugato) which is genially synthetized; b) the fugato writing made me think about how Mozart should have improvised on the organ (that period's chronicles describe his improvising style with superlative terms). This ouverture was transcribed by me in two versions: one (this one) for one organist and another for two organists which was published by Editions Delatour France.< Less

The Symphony K 551, composed in a very short time, is the last one of mozart's catalogue, and perhaps the peak of his writing. Unlike its twin symphony K 550, whose character is intimate and... More > melancholic, it is quite exuberant and at the same time majestic and marmorean. Starting from the orchestration, with trumpets and timpani, we can see the light which pervades the work; looking at the structure, in the last movement of the composition the Rondò is replaced by a fugato movement which is dense and wonderful from a contrapuntal point of view. This is a sign of Mozart's attempt to go beyond the formal structure of the classical symphony which so far consolidated in his works and his friend Haydn's ones. This transcription was commissioned by the XXIV Organ Rassegna of Bergamo's Province under the Artistic Supervision of Don Gilberto Sessantini and M° Fabio Galessi.< Less

The Symphony n°35, Haffner, in D major, K 385, is one of the most brilliant works by Mozart. The works has a very interesting genesis: it was born as a Serenade commissioned by the Haffner family... More > (they had been friends to the Mozarts for long. The father of the family, Sigmund, was the Salzburg burgomaster), whom Mozart had already composed the famous Haffner-Serenade K 250 for a few years before. This was actually entertainment music, supposed to be performed during the Haffners' celebration for the "von Imbachhausen", the attainment of the title of nobility. It's a quite excited, restless, vital Symphony, whose exuberance reflects the period Mozart was living in Wien in his first maturity.< Less

"On the page it looked nothing! The beginning simple, almost comic. Just a pulse. Bassoons, basset horns... like a rusty squeezebox. And then suddenly... high above it... an oboe. A single note,... More > hanging there, unwavering. Until... a clarinet took it over... sweetened it into a phrase of such delight. This was no composition by a performing monkey. This was a music I had never heard. Filled with such longing, such unfulfillable longing. It seemed to me I was hearing the voice of God." Antonio Salieri in Peter Shaffer's "Amadeus".< Less
