I hope you will enjoy this workbook and study guide to The Story of the Greeks by H.A. Guerber. This study guide contains short answer questions to Chapter 13 through 123 of the book. I skipped the first 12 Chapters because many of the stories were already familiar to my son and I through our study of Greek myths. In general, these first chapters contain more Greek myths and less history. In the workbook, I tried to put in a variety of very short answer questions, medium length questions (a sentence or two), along with some questions that would require a thoughtful paragraph of four or more sentences. These questions are frequent enough that this program could definitely serve as a substantial part of your writing practice for the year, or as a writing supplement. There are 113 lessons in this workbook, so given a 36-week school year, you should be able to finish this program doing one of the chapters approximately 4 days a week. You could also do two chapters, twice-a-week, which is what my son and I did when we used this curriculum. I would have preferred doing the program for less time, four days a week, but I had to make it as we used it! Lastly, this curriculum is best suited for 5th thru 8th graders and is designed to be used independently. I created a very thorough answer key so that the person teaching the program does not, in general, need to read the book to grade the worksheets. I would first review the worksheet and circle any incorrect answers. If the student can still not find the answer, then I would go to the text with them to find the answers. You could of course read the book with your child and do the whole thing out loud as well. However, the idea for the workbook and answer key was to allow more children to have access to this wonderful resource, who may not have access to a teacher who is able to do this. When my son did this workbook, I had a four-year-old to manage as well, so while we did review the incorrect and incomplete answers together, I relied heavily on the worksheets to keep our homeschooling day on schedule.
