You've been left in the charge of archeologists. They care more for digging into the island for a lost kingdom most of the world has forgotten than most anything else. Your father will return for you. Eventually. Until then, you're stuck with this. And then you fall down into the core of the island and uncover what everyone else has been looking for all along!
