Food Policies In developing Countries

2017

ByDey-Koffi Mawuli Richard GnezaMildred Mensah

The mapping of food security raises a variety of questions that require more study. Although many of the methods described in this volume have been developed to overcome data limitations, research can benefit substantially from better temporal frequency and geographic coverage for surveys and censuses. All efforts in this regard should be encouraged. Unlike topography, vegetation and climate data, reliable soil information at detailed scales remains difficult to acquire. Progress is hampered by the expensive nature of soil surveys and the prolonged fieldwork they need. Although the addition of environmental data in poverty assessments is a beneficial step, there is still some doubt over the data's accuracy. Poverty mapping should draw on the history of GIS research on data uncertainty.
