Sis. Rachel Lyga was born on March 5, 1935, in Pittsburg, Kansas. A self-educated woman of deep faith, she left school after the 10th grade to marry Russell Henderson and became a devoted mother of three by the age of 19. A true patriot, she spent countless hours at the local library researching history, politics, and current events through newspapers, journals, and microfiche. Typed on a manual typewriter, this perpetual calendar reflects years of careful research. Her trademark “R” became a symbol of her many projects, including the Early Morning “R” Track Meet she proudly sponsored. Herself a senior Olympian. The calendar captures historical facts and milestones spanning from the early 1500s to the late 1970s, with her last known entries dated around that time. Known for her handcrafted Christian America stamp used on official correspondence, Sis. Rachel's life was defined by faith, family, and love of country.
